Review: A Study in Charlotte

A Study in Charlotte A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.75
A cute retelling about granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes and grandson of Watson meeting and befriending in school in the USA and collaborating together to solve crimes especially after accusing Charlotte of committing one.
I liked the style of writing, the usage of technology, the smart kick-ass heroine and the fluffy cute romantic part of the story line.
However, they became friends very easily and early in the story and Watson was a bit slow and got on my nerves a little.
I cannot believe that I liked a retelling of Holmes, I think I am going to keep reading with this series after all.

Review: Sadie

Sadie Sadie by Courtney Summers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

OMG! Sadie😭
--------
It was an uncomfortable story. I was annoyed while listening to it because the narrator was trying to imitate the stutter of Sadie .
A very long detailed story and the peak was left to the last 100 pages or so.
I loved the radio part, it was made beautifully. I reckon that this novel would be a good tv series or a movie. It has all the potentials for it.

Trigger warnings: Murders, Blood, Pedophilia, Child abuse, Rape, Alcohol addiction.

It's a great book!
It's not like ordinary self-help books, it actually helps you understand what this era is causing us to feel like. The overload of everything, news, music, films, and books.
This book focuses mainly on social media effects on us. It helped me to cool down and regulate my social media conflicts. I am also trying to accomplish more of what he said.
Although I am sure not all anxieties are triggered by mobile phones, I just hoped he would elaborate more on that. However, this book was really helpful and I liked it a lot.
It's a must read and I highly recommend it.

Horror. Just horror!
The horror is not coming from aliens, goblins or ghosts.
It's coming from human, all humans!

It's a story about oppression by the name of God. A religious state in the U.S ruled by the Bible and gave men control over women - sounds familiar?-. Women are not allowed to read, own a property, have money or a job. They only there to serve men wether they are wives, marthas or handmaids.
Offred is a handmaid who had in her past life, a husband, a daughter, a mother, a job, money and a house of her own! Now, she serves only as a vessel, a uterus per se. Her only job is to get pregnant and reproduce!
The style of writing is called (Running sentences) which was not easy for me because my mindset is programmed that after a comma there's a new thing to learn -Arabic speaking language's problems,haha-. Also, there was a lot of details but of course it's a fictional dystopian novel, it had to had details!
Sometimes, Offred imagined things and jump from timeline to another on the same page. So, it was also a challenge.
I didn't like the last chapter about the lecture, it seemed absurd in a way.

But overall, I enjoyed the novel and to be honest it's just portrayed my biggest fears as a female. It's not a total sci-fi things, these things happen! They happened, happen and will happen to women anywhere in the world at anytime! Maybe not literally but they happen.

I recommend it, it's like 1984 but in a female point of view with actual reality.
