“Maybe it's wrong for us to hold any one person as our whole world. Maybe..." . "Maybe it's wrong of us to owe all of our happiness or sadness to one person.” - Wicked fox, Kat Cho

It was a great experience, I have never read any book that was set in South Korea before and I regret that! The novel carries so much knowledge of the Korean culture🥢 and terminology. Such a rich culture! The novel is sorted as urban fantasy with a cute romance between a human boy and a gumiho ( a woman + a fox). The story follows their relationship and the obstacles they face in this magical world 🎐

🦊💫🦊

---
I loved Jihoon and his grandmother. Jihoon is such a nice boy with a quick wit. Miyoung was kind of a lost soul to me, she seemed unstable and unsure of anything in her life.
Yena was such a complex character and I think she will make an appearance in the sequel. I loved Somin and Jihoon's friendship. I laughed hard every-time I saw Junu's lines.
There's a glossary at the end of the book explaining any korean term used. I really liked that she connected well with her heritage.
The style of writing was not the best.

Overall, I liked it so much and I can't wait for the sequel next year.

Review:

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Review: Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YComg...

Review: Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men

Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men by Caroline Criado-Pérez
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This book was mind-blowing!
The data she gathered from different aspects of life were really important and put me in rage due to this injustice!
The world is not designed for "men" and the idea that everything even in our modern life is made from a male perspective and suitable for men's body, health, brain and functions is infuriating!
From mobile phones which is suitable for the size of a man's palm, to cars and air conditioning!
How language affects us and how the interpretations of even the genderless professions still have a male or a female specific representation. The citation of academic women and the bias against them. Shushing and constant interruptions to women when explaining their opinions or ideas especially in Politics.
The statistics of women's rape from all over the world especially in India where there are homes with no toilets, making women go outside and endanger them to get assaulted, raped and murdered!!
The medical field and clinical trials where they target mainly men - Good GOD! - THAT'S ABSURD!

An eye-opening book, a favorite and a must read!

Review: Pumpkinheads

Pumpkinheads Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This story is just so cute!
I loved the amazing vibes, the colors and the illustrations and the cute fluffy story.
-------------
Deja and Josiah are seasonal best friends. They say good-bye every Halloween, and they’re reunited every September 1.
Every autumn, all through high school, they’ve worked together at a pumpkin patch and on their last night at this patch before college, Josiah feels blue but Deja wants to make the best of this night by going around trying snacks and making Josiah confess his love to the girl he's been crushing on her for three years.

I loved it and laughed and awed <3 Although it was a bit predictable but I enjoyed it so much and finished it in one hour.
I highly recommend it .

Review: The Book Thief

The Book Thief The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Liesel, a nine-year-old girl, is living with a foster family on Himmel Street after the Nazi took her communist mother and her brother was dead. Her parents have been taken away to a concentration camp. Liesel steals books. This is her story and the story of the inhabitants of her street when the bombs begin to fall.
-------------
This book made me sob so much!!
I liked the narration, although the angel of death made me mad when he had to tell us beforehand the destiny of every character! The premise of making the Angel of Death narrate the story was amazing and refreshing!
I loved Max, Rudy, Papa and the mayor's wife. I adored the books Max made for Liesel.
I cried a lot in the end of the book, the words were captivating!
I think the importance of this novel lays in describing the daily life in Germany under the Nazi, the difference of opinions and the silence following a different opinion and the public ignorance of concentration camps.
The German were a victim in this war as well.
This book is a favourite but I cannot read it again..at least not soon!! I loved it so much!
Highly recommended!

Review: Frankly in Love

Frankly in Love Frankly in Love by David Yoon
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Cringy and not cool!
I don't think it worth the hype.
The romance was absurd and not justified at all, it looked like a teenage romance where you switch between partners very easily with no clear explanation leaving broken hearts everywhere - I feel old already for saying this-.
I didn't like how he used Brit to get to Joy -subconsciously- and this is coming from me, the huge fake dating guru! I love fake dating in movies and tv series but I don't know.. something turned me off in the book.
I think the writing style was not very captivating and I didn't connect with the novel characters although I appreciated the aspect in dealing with their parents and how even when they moved to the US, they kept a distance between them and America and therefore became racist.
--And what about that scene when he ate her hair?WHY?! --
The turn at the very end about his father was really disturbing, what are you trying to address in this book? Juggle between two girls and choose the one your mother would approve? - like an Egyptian man hehe- Racism is a side effects of living with your parents? Don't hate your parents because they might die suddenly from an illness? Love your racist parents?! I DON'T HAVE A CLUE!!!!
Meh, such a cheap drama for the teenage boy!
It just didn't click with me and I don't think I will continue this series - WHY DOES IT HAVE A SEQUEL IN THE FIRST PLACE!?-

Here’s the box Pandora held and the bottles the genies were released from; they look like prisons and
coffins now. People die in this war, but the ideas cannot be erased.

I liked the first essay and the last third of this book, the rest was a no from me, I felt bored and unfocused.
I recommend you search for the first essay and read it instead of reading the whole book!

Review:

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Review: Vox

Vox Vox by Christina Dalcher
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

As a girl/woman you're only allowed 100 words per day! No nods are acceptable!
This dystopia is so real! It could happen!
Actually, it happens in many different ways, like telling women to shut up when they express their opinions or problems in public and social media or interrupting women in political debates or mansplaining!
Though I have a physical copy from this novel, I listened to the audiobook which contained an interview with the writer afterwards, she talked about how newer generations have lesser vocabulary due to social media with word limits and emoji!
It was really insightful!
I gave this book a higher rating because of the ending, not a lot of dystopian novels nowadays end on a good note.

Review: Turtles All the Way Down

Turtles All the Way Down Turtles All the Way Down by John Green
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

3.75
I think the epitome of this novel is the picture John Green painted for OCD people, the spiral, the overthinking. It was really good!
The story is a complex between mystery, romance and how to fight everyday's malicious thoughts if you are an OCD.
I don't think the characters were the best comparing to other John Green's work and I reckon the only thing that mattered to me while reading this book is the representation of OCD. I knew a lot of people hated the writing of this book but I found it interesting as it was written by someone who suffered from OCD himself.

A Study in Charlotte A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.75
A cute retelling about granddaughter of Sherlock Holmes and grandson of Watson meeting and befriending in school in the USA and collaborating together to solve crimes especially after accusing Charlotte of committing one.
I liked the style of writing, the usage of technology, the smart kick-ass heroine and the fluffy cute romantic part of the story line.
However, they became friends very easily and early in the story and Watson was a bit slow and got on my nerves a little.
I cannot believe that I liked a retelling of Holmes, I think I am going to keep reading with this series after all.

Review: Sadie

Sadie Sadie by Courtney Summers
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

OMG! Sadie😭
--------
It was an uncomfortable story. I was annoyed while listening to it because the narrator was trying to imitate the stutter of Sadie .
A very long detailed story and the peak was left to the last 100 pages or so.
I loved the radio part, it was made beautifully. I reckon that this novel would be a good tv series or a movie. It has all the potentials for it.

Trigger warnings: Murders, Blood, Pedophilia, Child abuse, Rape, Alcohol addiction.

It's a great book!
It's not like ordinary self-help books, it actually helps you understand what this era is causing us to feel like. The overload of everything, news, music, films, and books.
This book focuses mainly on social media effects on us. It helped me to cool down and regulate my social media conflicts. I am also trying to accomplish more of what he said.
Although I am sure not all anxieties are triggered by mobile phones, I just hoped he would elaborate more on that. However, this book was really helpful and I liked it a lot.
It's a must read and I highly recommend it.

The Handmaid's Tale The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAVfD...

Horror. Just horror!
The horror is not coming from aliens, goblins or ghosts.
It's coming from human, all humans!

It's a story about oppression by the name of God. A religious state in the U.S ruled by the Bible and gave men control over women - sounds familiar?-. Women are not allowed to read, own a property, have money or a job. They only there to serve men wether they are wives, marthas or handmaids.
Offred is a handmaid who had in her past life, a husband, a daughter, a mother, a job, money and a house of her own! Now, she serves only as a vessel, a uterus per se. Her only job is to get pregnant and reproduce!
The style of writing is called (Running sentences) which was not easy for me because my mindset is programmed that after a comma there's a new thing to learn -Arabic speaking language's problems,haha-. Also, there was a lot of details but of course it's a fictional dystopian novel, it had to had details!
Sometimes, Offred imagined things and jump from timeline to another on the same page. So, it was also a challenge.
I didn't like the last chapter about the lecture, it seemed absurd in a way.

But overall, I enjoyed the novel and to be honest it's just portrayed my biggest fears as a female. It's not a total sci-fi things, these things happen! They happened, happen and will happen to women anywhere in the world at anytime! Maybe not literally but they happen.

I recommend it, it's like 1984 but in a female point of view with actual reality.

4.5\5 stars because she didn't focus a lot on Grace's relationship.

She moved across the country to live with her dad and met that guy "Porter" -weird name- and they hated each other at first. But things happen and now Bailey has to choose between Alex or Porter!

It was a cute fluffy read with lots of laughs and drama. I absolutely loved the story and the couple. I loved Bailey's relation with her dad. I adored Grace <3 .
The writing is good and I loved it so much.

Review: Secrets

Secrets Secrets by Lesley Pearse
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Honour is my favourite fictional granny!
A bit predictable but enjoyable.

The twelve years old Adele is sent to a caring house after her witnessing the death of her eight years old sister in a car accident, her mother lost control and tried to kill Adele and her father. Her father abandoned them then and Adele went to Mr. Makepeace's house.
Mr.Makepeace tried to rape her, so Adele ran away to her grandmother and lived there. She met that incredible boy Michael Bailey and became friends with him until they fall in love with each other. Her mother returned and the WWII began and things started to change drastically.

I really enjoyed this story and the audiobook and I continued to reading it because it was such an easy read.
I could predict some stuff but others were shocking. Adele was sometimes a little bit annoying.

This novel discuss child rape in foster houses and post-partum depression and the drawbacks of war on people, social classes and economy, so it's a heavy story although being romantic.
I loved it and definitely recommend it.

Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It's a very witty and charming read. Also, a quick read although it is 434 pages long but I HAD to know what was going to happen the next chapter, so..
I laughed a lot while reading this book and rooted a lot for Katie, she is my favourite fictional character this year. She is smart, determined and funny.
The style of writing was easy to follow and understandable. I loved the characters and the relationships between them, especially between Katie and her stepmother.
The conflict was on point and realistic.
It's a very good book and I recommend it to everyone!

Review:

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review: A Very Large Expanse of Sea

A Very Large Expanse of Sea A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I loved it!
It's my first novel for Tahereh and now I'm considering myself a fan.
It's a novel about how politics can ruin innocent lives, the muslims in USA after 9/11 and how they were affected.
I liked the representation in this book and how it showed the differences between muslims from different cultures.
I would ship Shirin and Ocean a thousand times!
Highly Recommended.

Review: The Beauty Myth

The Beauty Myth The Beauty Myth by Naomi Wolf
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Naomi talks about the history of beauty, how the myth began when photography was invented and women started to compare their bodies to mistresses of the royal families or the royal family itself. How religion exasperated this myth along with political and economic issues.
Naomi demanded a third wave of feminism in this book, it was written in the 90's to help women overcome the beauty myth and plastic surgeries and plastic surgeries as they affect both genders now.

Highly recommended.

Review: The Library Book

The Library Book The Library Book by Susan Orlean
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When Susan knew about the fire of the public library of Los Angeles on April 29, 1986, she became interested in the fire and begin her investigation about the incident. This incident is uncommonly known as it happened after only a few days from Chernobyl catastrophe.
Susan describes everything in this book, the incident, the library before and then, the librarians duties and sayings and everything about public libraries you want to know.
Suddenly I've become aware how much does a library give.
It was a good long book full of information. Also, it's good on audiobooks because I felt like I was reading a documentary.

by جلال أمين
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review: A Mind of Her Own

A Mind of Her Own A Mind of Her Own by Paula McLain
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I am a collector of anything about Marie Curie!
She has been my role model since I was in fifth grade and read about her story for the first time, so no wonder I picked this audio about her.
I saw her house in Warsaw when I was there and was interested to know more about her, yet this audio just gave me a quick review about her and the narrator was a bit boring.
I loved that the scientists thought back at that time that they discovered everything and now it's time to describe the world, little did they know.

Review: Radio Silence

Radio Silence Radio Silence by Alice Oseman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

OK, now I can understand the hype and why it is a popular book with the teens.
This book has got all the right ingredients to be a teenager's bible, the abusive parents, the supporting parents (of others), questions about sexuality and the future, criticizing the educational system and the need to break free.
I think I would have loved this book more when I was a teenager myself. I liked the narration of the audiobook but it was a little bit confusing while reading the tumblr posts. I didn't like the interrupted speech from the future like (There is not going to be a romantic relationship between me and Alex..etc) though I LOVED Alex and Frances's relationship, it's not very common to write a girl-boy teen friendship without making them fall in love with each others -well, except maybe for Harry Potter and Hermione Granger-. I loved the relationship between Frances and her mother.
The pace of the story at first was capturing and fast but it slowed down in some places
The ending was kind of childish but I loved it!

I recommend it for younger readers.

Review:

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Review: The Witches

The Witches The Witches by Roald Dahl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I liked this book a lot though I kind of prefer the movie due to its obvious happy ending and the narration on this one on audiobook was not a total win. I had fun listening to it anyway, it's a good bedtime story.
But, I hate that the evil, the witch must be a woman! Such a patriarchal heritage!

Review: The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue

The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A quirky, hilarious and adventurous book! though, a bit slow but it was overall very good!
I had LOADS of fun following Monty, Percy and Felicity on this journey.
They went on an Europe trip where they got into troubles and the trip went on the contrary to its original plan.
I loved Felicity and can't wait to read the sequel to hear her story. I root for her so much! I love strong female characters in books!
This duology is all about self -discovery, fulfilling your dreams, friends and love.
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Christian Coulson (the actor who played Tom Riddle - Young Voldemort- in HP & the Chamber of Secrets) and it was superb! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Review:

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Review: Esio Trot

Esio Trot Esio Trot by Roald Dahl
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A short story about love, when Mr. Hoppy is in love with Mrs. Silver and too shy to tell her, noticing her heart belongs to Alfie, her pet tortoise, he mastered a small plan to win her heart by faking a magic spell that will help the tortoise grow up.
How will that goes?
It's a very heartwarming short story that I enjoyed listening to a lot.
